Approximately
800 Cardiologists and other associated medical staff attended the conference.
The delegates came from all States of Australia, as well as many from overseas:
New Zealand, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines,
Hong Kong, China, Japan, Canada, USA, etc.
The theme
of the conference was Heart failure in 3D: Drugs, Devices, Diagnostics.
We had a
corner 3m x 3m display booth which had the theme: “Amyloid Heart Disease is
Treatable.”
There were
display panels showing the formation of amyloid fibrils, the types of
Amyloidosis, symptoms of Amyloidosis, methods of diagnosis, and the latest
treatments available.
We
distributed hundreds of CDs which included a Powerpoint lecture by Dr. Rodney
Falk. Dr. Falk had very generously given full permission for unlimited
reproduction of his lecture, which is titled “Amyloid Heart Disease: What is it
and is it treatable?”
Dr. Falk is
one of the world’s foremost specialists in cardiomyopathy. He works in
conjunction with the Boston University Amyloid Research Centre. His first
Amyloidosis publication was in 1983. He now works with Harvard Vanguard Medical
Associates at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Cardiac Amyloidosis Program.
